Tata Power Renewables Commissions 100 MW Captive Solar Project In Tamil Nadu

Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) has commissioned a 100 MW Group Captive Solar Project (TNGC-2) at Vellalankottai and Nalandhula villages in Kayathar, Tamil Nadu, taking its utility-scale renewable portfolio to 12.3 GW.

With the latest addition, TPREL's operational capacity has crossed 7 GW, comprising more than 5.7 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind assets.

Project To Supply Three Tata Group Companies

Power from the project will be supplied to three Tata Group companies. TP Solar, Tata Power's solar manufacturing arm producing high-efficiency solar cells and modules, will receive 40.625 MW, while Tata Electronics, which operates across semiconductors, precision engineering and advanced electronics, will receive 53.125 MW. Tata Realty and Infrastructure will receive the remaining 6.25 MW.

The project is designed to generate 240.63 million units of clean electricity annually and is expected to offset approximately 1.5 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.

Tracker Technology Deployed

The project features the first deployment of Flexible Terrain Compatible (FTC) Single Axis Tracker technology in India for a Tata project. It uses 2,61,660 Mono PERC bifacial solar modules and has been designed to maximise electricity generation while improving operational efficiency across varying terrain conditions.

Electricity generated at the facility will be transmitted through the Kayathar 400 kV Grid Substation, providing the evacuation infrastructure for delivery of renewable power to the beneficiary companies.

Another 5.3 GW Under Development

Beyond its more than 7 GW of operational capacity, TPREL has another 5.3 GW of renewable projects at various stages of development.

The development pipeline comprises 2.2 GW of solar and 3.1 GW of wind capacity. These projects are scheduled to be commissioned in phases over the next six to 24 months.

Together, the operational and under-development assets take TPREL's utility-scale renewable energy portfolio to 12.3 GW.
