TP Solar, the solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power, produced 1 GW of solar modules and 0.9 GW of solar cells during the second quarter of FY27, as the company continued to ramp up manufacturing at its Tirunelveli facility in Tamil Nadu.
During the first half of FY27, from April to September 2026, TP Solar manufactured 2 GW of modules and 1.8 GW of cells. The modules are compliant with the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms and are approved under the government’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).
TP Solar is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), which is part of The Tata Power Company. The company operates a 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility at Tirunelveli. Tata Power, through TPREL, has invested nearly Rs 4,300 crore in establishing the facility as part of its push to expand domestic solar manufacturing capabilities.
Nearly 80 per cent of the workforce at the Tirunelveli plant comprises women. The manufacturing facility is equipped with TOPCon and Mono PERC technologies and produces ALMM-certified modules as well as DCR-compliant modules using cells manufactured in India at the plant. It also uses artificial intelligence and machine learning-based systems and Automated Guided Vehicles to automate manufacturing processes.
The Tirunelveli facility forms part of Tata Power's broader solar manufacturing footprint. TPREL also operates a solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Bengaluru with capacities of 530 MW for cells and 682 MW for modules. Tata Power has established 4.9 GW of integrated solar cell and module manufacturing capacity as it expands its presence across the domestic renewable energy value chain.
Renewable Portfolio Reaches 12.4 GW
TPREL currently has a total renewable utility capacity of 12.4 GW, including 10.1 GW of capacity tied to power purchase agreements. Around 5.3 GW of projects are at various stages of implementation, while operational renewable capacity stands at 7.1 GW, comprising 5.8 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind.
Its solar engineering, procurement and construction portfolio exceeds 16.7 GWp of ground-mounted utility-scale projects and 5.6 GWp of rooftop and distributed ground-mounted capacity. Beyond solar manufacturing and generation, TPREL operates across wind, hybrid, round-the-clock and floating solar projects as well as battery storage. It also provides EPC, operations and maintenance, rooftop solar, solar pump and electric vehicle charging solutions.
Tata Power's total operational and under-construction power capacity has crossed 26 GW, including around 17.7 GW of clean and green energy capacity and about 8.8 GW of thermal generation capacity. The company also has more than 7,800 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, including projects in the pipeline, and serves over 13 million customers through its distribution businesses. Tata Power has signed 2.8 GW of pumped hydro storage projects and operates more than 7,000 public EV charging points across 717 cities and towns.
Tata Power has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045.
