Hindustan Zinc has increased the share of renewable energy in its overall power consumption to 22 per cent from 18 per cent in FY26, as the Vedanta Group company works towards meeting nearly 70 per cent of its power requirements through clean energy by FY28.
The company generated 892 million units of green power during FY26, up from 632 million units in FY25. Hindustan Zinc operates business units across Rajasthan and Uttarakhand and has been expanding the use of renewable energy across its operations.
Renewable Energy Capacity Expansion
As part of its clean energy strategy, Hindustan Zinc has expanded its round-the-clock renewable energy power delivery agreement with Serentica Renewables. The contracted capacity under the arrangement has been increased from 450 MW to 530 MW. The company is also upgrading its power connectivity from the state transmission network to the central transmission utility. The move forms part of its broader efforts to increase renewable energy integration and support the transition of its operations towards cleaner sources of electricity.
Alongside renewable power procurement, Hindustan Zinc is working on measures aimed at improving energy efficiency and increasing the utilisation of alternative sources of energy across its facilities. These initiatives include improving waste heat recovery from steam turbines. Waste heat generated during industrial operations can be recovered and utilised as an additional energy source, helping reduce the requirement for conventional power.
The company is also generating renewable electricity through floating solar panels installed on water ponds. Such installations allow existing water surfaces within industrial facilities to be used for solar power generation. The measures form part of Hindustan Zinc's broader effort to increase clean energy consumption while reducing the environmental footprint associated with its metals and mining operations.
