Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) recorded more than 130 per cent year-on-year growth in utility-scale project execution during the second quarter of FY27, commissioning 419 MW of capacity compared with 182 MW in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
The renewable energy arm of Tata Power also executed 131.2 MWh of battery storage projects during Q2 FY27, reflecting the growing role of storage alongside its solar and wind portfolio. Of the total storage projects executed during the quarter, 101.2 MWh was for TPREL's in-house portfolio, while 30 MWh was delivered for third-party projects.
The quarterly additions took TPREL's utility-scale execution during the first half of FY27 to 645 MW. The company also executed 161.2 MWh of storage projects during H1 FY27, including 101.2 MWh for its own portfolio and 60 MWh for third-party customers. The execution numbers come as renewable energy developers increasingly combine conventional solar and wind projects with battery storage, firm and dispatchable renewable energy projects and captive power solutions.
Storage And FDRE Expand Project Mix
Among the major projects commissioned by TPREL during H1 FY27 was the 100.8 MW Jewali Wind Project. The company also commissioned the Kalasar Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project, comprising 227.5 MW of solar capacity integrated with a 101.2 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project adds storage-backed renewable capacity to TPREL's operational portfolio.
Other projects commissioned during the first half included the 100 MW Kayathar Group Captive Project and the 72.5 MW Tata Steel Captive Project, expanding the company's presence in renewable energy solutions for commercial and industrial consumers. The combination of utility-scale renewable capacity, captive projects and battery storage indicates a broader project mix as TPREL expands beyond standalone solar and wind installations.
Operational Portfolio Reaches 7.2 GW
Following the latest commissioning activity, TPREL's utility-scale operational portfolio has increased to 7.2 GW. This includes 5.8 GW of solar capacity and 1.3 GW of wind capacity.
The company's battery storage capacity has reached 281.2 MWh. The Q2 performance also represents an acceleration in project execution compared with the same period last year. The 419 MW commissioned during the quarter was more than twice the 182 MW executed in Q2 of the previous financial year.
At the same time, the execution of both in-house and third-party battery storage projects broadens TPREL's exposure to the storage segment. Battery systems are increasingly being paired with renewable generation to improve the availability and management of intermittent solar and wind power.
The commissioning of the Kalasar FDRE project is particularly relevant to this shift, combining solar generation with battery storage rather than relying solely on standalone renewable capacity. TPREL's H1 additions also span multiple project models, including utility-scale wind, storage-backed solar, group captive capacity and a captive project for Tata Steel. The diversified execution comes as renewable energy developers increasingly focus on solutions that combine generation capacity with storage and power supply arrangements for industrial consumers.
With 645 MW of utility-scale capacity and 161.2 MWh of storage projects executed during H1 FY27, the company's second-half performance will determine the pace at which it continues to expand its 7.2 GW operational renewable portfolio.
