Juniper Green Energy, through its subsidiary Juniper Nirjara Energy, has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with SJVN Ltd for a 50 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project. The agreement has been signed at a tariff of Rs 4.25 per unit. Under the PPA, the project is required to provide four hours of peak-hour power with 90 per cent monthly availability, along with meeting a minimum annual capacity utilisation factor.
Solar And Storage To Provide Dispatchable Power
The project will combine solar generation with a battery energy storage system (BESS), allowing renewable electricity to be supplied during specified peak-demand periods. The storage component is intended to improve the predictability and dispatchability of renewable power under the agreement.
The project was awarded through SJVN's FDRE-2 tender under tariff-based competitive bidding guidelines. Juniper Green received the letter of award for the project on February 3, 2025. The agreement adds to the growing pipeline of FDRE projects in India, where solar and wind generation are increasingly being paired with battery storage to provide power according to predetermined supply schedules rather than solely when renewable energy is generated.
Juniper Green Expands Renewable Portfolio
Following the project addition, Juniper Green Energy's renewable energy portfolio stands at 11,216 MWp, alongside 8,989 MWh of battery energy storage capacity. The 25-year contract with SJVN provides long-term power offtake for the project while adding another solar-plus-storage project to Juniper Green's development portfolio.
The project also reflects the increasing role of battery storage in India's renewable energy market as developers and power procurers move towards projects capable of supplying electricity during peak hours and meeting defined availability requirements.
